Liz: Thanks for the yogurt instructions. I tried to make it today and I believe it failed. I used 2% Fage Greek yogurt, 1/2 gallon milk, and let it sit in the central Florida sunshine for 5 hours under a black t-shirt. When I looked after 5 hours, it still had the original milky consistency when I originally had made it. Any suggestions ? Thanks, and continued safe travels......Tom

Liz, I enjoy your blog. Thanks. Would you do an entry or two about the technical details of Swell? Power consumption, solar panel power production, battery maintenance and charging and monitoring, refrigeration, propane tank refilling, water tank filling? You haven't mentioned much about boat maintenance since Swell was laid up to work on the prop shaft. You also spent some time refitting the boat prior to leaving the States. Now that you have been out there for a few years, what would you do different in getting Swell ready, what equipment did you think you needed only to find out its ballast?

Regards

Thank you for sharing your journey. My husband and I are leaving next year for the South Pacific as well. What do you have for solar panels (how many watts), battery banks and wind? We are debating various equipment and would love to know what the specifics are that support your lifestyle as we prioritize our purchases (and drop some options for budget reasons!). Is there a section on your website we are missing with the facts of the boat and its systems?
I know what you mean about the yogurt, we started making our own a few years ago and love it. It's easy, economical and skips use of plastic. Are you using coconut milk or are there milk animals where you are?
If you get somewhere a bit cooler, saurkraut is another thing that is ridiculously easy to make and tastes soo much better than the stuff you get in the store!
Enjoy your discoveries!

Hello Liz!!

THANK YOU for sharing your voyage with us! I have thoroughly enjoyed following along since the beginning! Working as a missionary the last few years has taken me to some of the same locations you have visited in the Pacific islands. Coincidentally, I surfed K-38 in Baja the day after you helped with the beach cleanup, and was sorry to have missed helping out. Hope to have the opportunity to actually meet you in person somewhere down the road.

peace,
Greg

Hi Liz,

I love all your posts - thank you so much for sharing.

This one reminded me of a quote by Mark Twain "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness."

Be safe!
